While most network TV series have had to have projects sidelined due to current events, this meant little chance for TV shows to film on a regular schedule. However, that does not mean that there is nothing new to watch this upcoming winter.
The December schedule has been reserved for a few show premieres and meant for a midseason cliffhanger in the past decade. This year will be a complete difference from last year’s usual model of how things go. TV series planning on being released later in 2021 will be released early to maintain morale and give the public more options as everyone remains inside during this season. The streaming services have become more of a way to cope and process the past year. As a result, services have exploded but increased expectations of what is to come.
The new products that are releasing for consumption will not only allow minds to ease but also be a way of getting caught up with information that is released this year. Perhaps in the future of streaming will have the foresight to come up with new systems. Only time will tell, but for now, pass the time with these releases:
Growing up is the weirdest thing for anyone to go through. Big Mouth embodies this concept but adds trauma, taboo, and adult humor into the mix. Based on the trailer for season 4, the audience can expect anxiety to focus on this quirky cartoon. Packed with innuendos, chaos, and puberty monster shenanigans, the voices Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, and Jordan Peele will keep you entertained. Created, written, and produced by Family Guy writer Andrew Goldberg and the showrunners, this comic will have you in tears.
Being an adult is something many of us will admit: it’s expensive. And the show ‘Brassic’ paints a picture of how being an adult, broke and with no prospects, is reality but with much-needed humor of it all. Set to premiere on Hulu, this show follows Vinny and his pals for so much more crazy antics with a dose of mischief and reality. While they may not always have the best intentions as petty thieves, their friendship is as thick as thieves. Based in a fictional northern England town known as Hawley, get ready for the antics and touches of humor schemed cooked up with this season. Created by showrunner Joe Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst, this comedy will have you in tears through mood and raw emotion.
There has never really been a reality TV show where people are polite to one another amidst a competition. The Great British Baking Show comes back for season three just for the holidays to do some holiday treats in time for the festivities. While many of us cannot give out cookies or treats like we usually would, this show can teach us about cooking while watching some friendly competition and a little bit of mischief from the sidelines. Initially produced by BBC One, BBC Two, and Channel 4, this reality TV show is sure to have everyone tune in during the holiday season. Judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, this show will keep you on your toes this holiday season.
Over twenty years ago, before Beyonce, there was Selena. Specifically, Selena Quintanilla-Perez was one of the pioneers in breaking the glass ceiling as the most popular idol during her time. Now, a complete story on her life—written and permitted by her family—is hitting the streaming deck. Her story takes the place of her entire experience of what is publicly documented, photographed, and told by those who knew most. This series showed her when she was alive but reenacted moments that shaped her into the star. Written by Moises Zamora, who’s work in American Crime has earned him an Emmy for his work. This docuseries will give you a glimpse into the star that was gone too soon from the world.
It has only been one season since HBO Max released Euphoria, and this show has taken everyone by storm. Season 2 was meant to come out sometime in 2020, put on hold with some exceptions due to unforeseen circumstances. Two special episodes will be released: one relating to COVID-19 and the other relating to the holidays. Though the trailer has yet to release, Zendaya, the actor who plays the main character, has hinted that these two episodes will relate to the season one finale. Sam Levinson, creator, director, and writer, may have had some setbacks, but he knows what to give the fanbase of Euphoria to keep them satisfied.
The story of the Gallagher Clan is setting up to close with the final season premiering and ending the information on one of US’s favorite comedy-drama to grace the screen. The Gallagher Clan is ready to tie in some loose ends and finish the last season with a bang. Faced with the neighborhood being ‘gentrified’ and some old rivalries, a new business venture, and more—this final season will do more than draw you in. Adapted from the original UK version, Shameless will leave you wondering how shameless people can be. Developed by John Wells with the blessing from Paul Abbott, this last season will leave you laughing over the antics and missing the Gallagher Clan.
One of America’s favorite comedians is back with his hit sitcom: Mr. Iglesias. Following his students’ encouragement to work harder and smarter at school, Mr. Iglesias juggles being a good role model, teaching, and falling in love with his new co-worker slash love interest. Despite the ups and downs, Mr. Iglesias is there to support his history class students with their (not-so) realistic dreams, teach one how to drive, and offer guidance with his talent of many voices of wisdom. Created by Kevin Hench, seasoned producer and writer for television, this December, get ready to laugh along with this heartfelt comedy.
Technology is a somewhat new yet old innovation that keeps on expanding as we innovate with it more. The Expanse, set in the distant future in which humanity has taken over space, comes out for the fifth season. This time, it deals with old and new enemies alike and exciting encounters on earth and in the area. The story follows a group of misfits: United Nations Security Council member, a police detective, a ship officer, and his crew as they travel and unknowingly come upon a mystery. With a nail biter from season 4, season 5 takes place in space and on a familiar planet known as ‘Earth.’ Only developers and executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby what twists and turns will be coming to the screen this upcoming December.
Based on the 1978 book by Steven King, this series takes place in the distant but dystopian future filled with magic: good and terror. Set in a time where the world was decimated by a plague that swept through most of the world, a handful of survivors remain as humanity’s last hope. Despite this, good and evil have manifested into elemental forces that can mean the eventual showdown: good vs. evil. On the “good” side sits a handful of survivors and the wisdom of an elder known as Mother Abigail, played by Whoopi Goldberg. On the side of evil sits a man consumed by the nightmares and manifestations of evil whose goal is to use his powers to stop Mother Abigail and the survivors from finding peace. This limited series comes highly anticipated against the current event climate. Developed and directed by Josh Boone, the award-winning director of ‘The Fault In Our Stars,’ this series will do more than strike fear but tung at your heartstrings.
